The simple answer is that a pawn is money advanced against collateral. Collateral is property you own that you promise in exchange for the use of the money you receive. You have probably already experienced this kind of financial transaction. A car loan and a house mortgage are examples of money advanced against collateral. Different jurisdictions treat pawns in different ways. In some places, it is considered a conditional sale. You sell your interest in the property with a guaranteed right to repurchase that same property within a specified period of time at a set price. In other jurisdictions a pawn is treated as a loan. From your point of view, there is no meaningful difference. In each case you can retrieve your property upon payment of the agreed fees within the specified time.
Again, the answer is pretty simple. You may need quick access to more cash than you have at your immediate disposal. Perhaps you want to take advantage of a great bargain, or maybe you need to pay an emergency medical bill. You don't want to have to sell something you really want - especially at "distress sale" prices - but you must act right away. A pawn is the perfect solution. You get the money you need immediately! You post your property as a guarantee that you will repay the money and fees. You still have a right to the property. You don't have to sacrifice something you value.
To pawn you need to be an adult, provide proper identification, and have collateral. Most jurisdictions establish identification requirements by law. Whether something you have will serve as acceptable collateral must be determined by physical inspection and testing; however, you can call one of our stores to get an idea if what you have is the kind of thing we can accept.
King Pawn stores your collateral in secure storage areas designed to accommodate the type of merchandise you bring to us. Special safes and separately locked storage areas are used for certain items, such as jewelry. Your merchandise is treated exactly the way we would want our own merchandise treated - which is to say we put it where it belongs and leave it alone! Except for quality control checks or as required by law, no one handles or uses your merchandise while it is in pawn.
Sorry - no easy answer to this one. There is no maximum amount, although there may be restrictions specified by law for higher pawn transactions. Pawns of several thousands of dollars are not uncommon. The real determinant is the value of the collateral you offer to put up. Pawn shops usually figure the collateral value of merchandise as a percentage of its future projected used resale value. Sometimes the used resale value is shockingly low. Merchandise which loses value quickly may have low collateral value when compared with new prices. Computers, for example, change models and prices rapidly and do not hold their value well. Video games are only valuable while they are current. On the other hand, jewelry holds its value quite well, once the traditional high markup is factored out. King Pawn will always strive to offer you the highest realistic collateral value, based on our testing and knowledge of market conditions. Because we must inspect and test each item offered as collateral for a pawn, we must establish its pawn value in person. We may, however, be able to give you a general range of expected values by phone, depending on the items you have.
King Pawn offers a wide variety of services at very competitive fees. Because these fees can be tailored to individual needs on a person-by-person basis, we do not post our fee structure on the internet.
